Alkagesta joins trade finance leaders at GTR Commodities 2026 in Geneva
CFO Orkhan Zeynalli and board member Pierre Gay represented the trading firm as bankers, traders and risk specialists weighed corridor disruption, credit and compliance.

Alkagesta, the Geneva-linked commodity trading group, took part in GTR Commodities 2026 in Geneva on 23 September, according to a company announcement. The one-day forum, organised by Global Trade Review, is regarded as one of the principal annual meeting points for the commodity trade and trade finance community in Switzerland.
The company said the event drew more than 600 senior professionals and over 50 speakers. Sessions covered commodity price volatility, geopolitical disruption, tariffs and shifting trade flows, as well as developments in risk management, compliance and supply chain oversight.
Alkagesta was represented by chief financial officer Orkhan Zeynalli and board member Pierre Gay, who met financial institutions, service providers and market participants throughout the programme. Zeynalli has previously represented the company at the FT Commodities Global Summit, while Gay has been associated with the group's steel strategy through its Alkavex arm.
Much of the agenda reflected the pressures that have dominated commodity markets in 2026. Speakers examined the outlook for global trade amid continued disruption to key shipping corridors, including the effect on supply, pricing and the deployment of trade finance. Geneva remains a natural venue for that debate: Switzerland is one of the world's largest hubs for physical commodity trading, a position documented by the industry association Suissenégoce.
Capital resilience was a recurring theme. Panels addressed how traders manage revolving credit facilities, working capital and margin calls during sharp price swings, and how banks and insurers are reassessing their appetite for high-risk routes. Financing strategies aimed at restoring stability in oil trade, and their longer-term effect on corridor risk models and trader funding costs, were also discussed.
The forum gave particular attention to small and mid-sized traders, which continue to face structural barriers to financing. Discussions centred on cash-flow optimisation and on niches where smaller, more agile firms can retain a competitive edge, an issue the International Chamber of Commerce has long highlighted in its work on the trade finance gap.
Compliance and fragmentation completed the programme, with sessions on sanctions monitoring, counterparty screening, export controls and the growing use of artificial intelligence to detect trade fraud and verify documents.
Alkagesta said its participation provided direct engagement with the lenders, risk professionals and counterparties that support its trading operations, and reinforced the importance of financial agility, disciplined risk management and compliance-led execution in a volatile market.
