Alkagesta has been awarded the EcoVadis Committed Badge, the company announced this month, recognising its commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices across its global trading operations.

EcoVadis is one of the world's most widely used providers of business sustainability ratings, assessing companies across four pillars: environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The assessment is evidence-based, evaluating companies' policies, reporting and transparency against internationally recognised sustainability standards. The Committed Badge reflects a baseline level of verified performance across those criteria.

The recognition sits alongside Alkagesta's broader ESG commitments, which include ISCC and CORSIA certification for sustainable aviation fuel trading, access to EU ETS allowances, and investment in environmental research initiatives such as the Clean Caspian startup, which has worked on identifying formulants for oil-spill remediation.

"Receiving the EcoVadis Committed Badge reflects the work being done across Alkagesta to embed responsible business practices into how we operate — not as a separate agenda, but as part of how we run the business day to day," said Orkhan Rustamov, chief executive of Alkagesta. "As a company trading commodities that sit at the heart of the global economy, we take seriously our responsibility to operate with transparency and care."

Sustainability ratings have become increasingly important in commodity trading, where banks, insurers and counterparties routinely screen trading firms against ESG criteria before extending credit or entering long-term relationships. EcoVadis ratings are used by more than 150,000 companies worldwide and are frequently requested in supplier and counterparty onboarding processes.

The badge, issued at group level for Alkagesta Holding Co Ltd, is valid through September 2027. The company has previously published an ESG report setting out its environmental and governance priorities, and has been expanding its presence in lower-carbon markets including sustainable aviation fuel and carbon allowances.
